Standalone garment development

Pattern making & sample sewing.

Derrick coordinates independent pattern makers and sample rooms to turn your tech pack, references or existing garment into a workable pattern and physical sample. Existing patterns or samples can also be revised.

Development can be booked as a separate service. Once approved, the editable digital pattern and sample can be handed over for production with the manufacturer you choose.

Getting started

What to provide

Start with what you have. Derrick reviews the project with you and identifies any missing information before development begins.

Design direction

A tech pack, fashion flats or reference photos.

Shape & fit

A physical sample, existing pattern, measurement chart or target fit.

Materials & construction

Your fabric preferences and any construction or finishing requirements.

You do not need every item ready at the beginning.

02

From brief to sample

How the work is quoted and developed

After reviewing your project information, Derrick and the pattern maker assess the style complexity, materials and development workload. Each style receives its own quotation, with the scope, expected timeline, handover format and fees confirmed before work starts.

01

Review the brief

Derrick reviews your references, measurements, fit goals, materials and construction requirements with the pattern maker. Missing details can be clarified together.

02

Confirm scope & quote

The pattern maker assesses complexity and workload. Derrick confirms the development scope, expected timing, deliverables and a separate quotation for each style.

03

Develop & review

Depending on the style, the team can start with draping or prepare a CLO 3D garment for your review before moving into pattern making. After your feedback, the pattern is developed and the first physical sample is sewn. Derrick shares sample photos for review.

04

Handover

After approval, Derrick coordinates delivery of the confirmed editable digital pattern and physical garment sample. You can take the pattern to another factory for production.

Draping and CLO 3D are optional development steps and each carries an additional fee, quoted and agreed with you in advance. A toile or mock-up may also be reviewed before the final pattern and sample are made. Revision scope is agreed as part of the quotation, with charges explained in the revision policy below.

03

Materials & costs

Fabric and trims

Supply your own materials

You may provide your own fabric and trims. Fabric purchase costs are separate from pattern making and sample sewing.

Ask Derrick to source them

If sourcing support is required, Derrick can arrange suitable materials according to the project requirements. Fabric, trims and sourcing services are quoted separately from pattern making and sample sewing. Charges depend on the specifications, quantities and availability.

Trims: function comes first. Derrick looks for suitable in-stock options without minimum order requirements, matching appearance and colour where possible.

04

Fees & revisions

Sample development costs

Keep the design. Avoid paying the initial pattern fee again.

For revisions to the same design, minor pattern adjustments are free. Making another physical sample and supplying any required materials still carry a charge. Structural pattern changes are quoted separately.
